“Is airplane registration in Canada really necessary?” “Should I choose to register my airplane, how do I know if it’s an ‘airplane’ or a ‘basic ultra-light airplane?” Those are just a few of the questions that we’re often asked by customers. Really, one of the reasons we started this company was so that it would be easier for aircraft owners to not only complete their aircraft documentation forms, but we also wanted to make the entire process easier. Below, we offer solutions to some of the questions we’re commonly asked.
Do I Need Airplane Registration in Canada?
Yes. If you own an aircraft and want to fly it in Canada, then you will need to register it. However, this is easier than it may initially sound. At our site, you’ll be able to fill out an initial registration form. If you have all of the information you need in front of you, you can do this in just a few minutes’ time. Moreover, as our site is optimized for mobile, you’ll be able to fill these forms out from anywhere.
How do I know if I have an Ultra-Light Aeroplane or Not?
For your aircraft to be considered “ultra-light,” you need to take into account two different factors. Does it have more than two seats? If so, then it’s not a basic ultra-light. Additionally, check to see if it was designed and manufactured to have a maximum take-off weight that doesn’t exceed 544 kilograms (or 1,199 pounds) and a stall speed in the landing configuration that doesn’t exceed 39 knots (or 45 miles per hour) at the maximum take-off weight. Should it fit those specific design criteria, then you have a basic ultra-light and should register it accordingly.
